About For The Fame

You play with the mouse, selecting and dragging items into your grid with nine storage slots to spare. Each step you pick one of three paths through shops, rooms and events, and every fourth step your grid is pitted against a build another player made earlier, so there is never any waiting for an opponent. Win ten fights before your hearts hit zero. The item pool runs to more than 115 items across more than ten shops, fifteen rooms and ten events, and a Beginner mode trims the pool and turns PvP off while Normal mode gives you everything.

The draw is the synergies: the developer bills them as game-breaking, and the itch comments are full of players comparing infinite combos and the builds that beat them. It is drawn in 1-bit pixel art and, by the developer's own description, inspired by The Bazaar and Backpack Battles, so it suits anyone who likes crafting a build and seeing it fight on its own. The game is still in development with one playable character, and balance shifts between patches.

For The Fame FAQ

Is For The Fame free?

Yes. It plays free in the browser on itch.io, there is a free Windows download, and the Steam page is there to wishlist.

How do you win a run in For The Fame?

Win ten fights before your hearts run out. Each loss costs a heart, and between fights you choose one of three paths through shops, rooms and events to strengthen your grid.
