About Poke Brawl

Pick one of 8 Pokémon (Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Gengar, Lucario, Garchomp or Gardevoir) and fight in real time on a top-down arena: move, dodge and fire four moves, each with its own recharge, before the 99-second timer runs out. A dodge timed at the last moment is a perfect dodge and powers up your next hit. Every fighter has a signature field, from Charizard's harsh sunlight and Blastoise's rain to Pikachu's electric floor and Gengar's darkness, called with a power gauge that fills as you fight. Moves mark the floor with scorches, puddles and frost, the Crystal Court's pillars block shots and the Magma Pit's lava burns anyone who isn't a Fire type, and Charizard flies over all of it. Type matchups matter without deciding a fight on their own: a super-effective hit does about 1.3 times the damage and stuns and knocks back harder, and no type is immune to damage.

Each Pokémon has three styles: Classic and two of its own, such as Pikachu's Speedster and Trapper or Charizard's Sky Ace and Blaze Brawler, or you can mix your own set of moves. Moves bring burn, paralysis, poison and sleep, guards such as Protect, Detect and Counter, Stealth Rock and Light Screen. The computer plays on Easy, Normal or Hard, new players start on Easy, and the fighter picker opens on a fair matchup and says when one is tough or good. In 2 vs 2 you pick a partner against two random foes: each fighter has assists to call, moves of matching types from you and your partner combine into a combo attack, and standing on a downed partner for two seconds brings them back.

To fight a friend, open ONLINE and send a WhatsApp invite or a room code: the link drops them straight into your room, each on their own device, with no account. A trainer card with a name and a friend code lets you add friends, see who's online or in a fight, and challenge them. On a computer the arrow keys move, A, S, D and F fire your moves, Space dodges and Q fires the power, and a gamepad works too. On a phone held sideways, a stick and the move buttons sit under your thumbs. The music is an original chiptune that follows the fight.
