Highlights

  • Two-resource tension: scorium to escape, ore to grow stronger
  • Over 50 cards plus 10 utility cards for run-shaping synergies
  • 40-plus minutes of synthwave by Airglow under a retro CRT look

Keep in mind

  • A browser demo of a Steam game, so the full card pool and features live elsewhere
  • The developer notes rare WebGL context or out-of-memory errors on some browsers; reloading, or disabling the CRT shader and motion options, usually fixes them

About Retromine

Each expedition is a push into procedurally generated caves. You play resource, tool and action cards to dig, balancing two currencies: scorium buys your escape, ore buys power. Make it out and you shop for cards, upgrade your deck and hunt for synergies among more than 50 cards and 10 utility cards; stay too long and the run ends. The developer calls it tough and invites anyone who wins to post a screenshot in the comments.

It stands out for how the two resources pull against each other every turn, wrapped in a retro CRT look and over 40 minutes of synthwave by Airglow that the page pitches as meditative. The demo has had steady updates, most recently a v5 overhaul with an in-game Retropedia, draw tokens and boss rounds, and it suits players who want a hard, replayable deckbuilder in half-hour sittings.

Who is Retromine for?

  • Fans of Slay the Spire who enjoyed building a deck run by run and discovering combinations that break the game open.

Retromine FAQ

Is Retromine free?

Yes. The itch.io demo plays free in your browser; the full version is on Steam, where you can wishlist it.

Is Retromine hard?

Yes, by design. The developer calls it tough-as-nails and asks anyone who wins to post a screenshot; commenters mention a Brutal difficulty.

Why does Retromine show a WebGL or blue screen error?

The page says these are rare browser conflicts. Reload the page and load the game a second time; for the blue screen, turn off the CRT shader, background motion and card motion in the options menu.
