How we chose these games

We started from the 19 Pokémon fan games on our full list, each checked free and playable in a browser with no download, sign-up or ads, and kept the five built around runs: you build a team as you go, and a loss sends you back to the start. On 26 October 2026 we opened every game Google shows for Pokémon roguelikes. PokéVoid passed; PokéRogue needs an account before you can play, Pokelike shows ads, and pokemonroguelike.com is a collector that links to ROM hacks. The five are ordered by what players say: itch.io ratings, Reddit reception and runs played.

Every game here was checked on Oct 26, 2026 to be free and to run in a web browser with no download. Editors are playtesting each one for a full review; scores appear once that is done.

Pokémon roguelike games: questions people ask

Is there a Pokémon roguelike like PokéRogue that doesn't need an account?

Yes: PokéVoid. It's built on PokéRogue's open-source code with a year of extra work, and it starts a run and saves in your browser without an account. For something different, Pokémon Overlord and PokéPlunder are roguelikes of their own, and both start straight away.

Why isn't PokéRogue on this list?

PokéRogue asks you to log in or register before you can play, and we only list games you can start straight away. PokéVoid, built on PokéRogue's code, starts without one.

What is the best Pokémon roguelike?

By player ratings, Pokémon Overlord (4.6 from 112 players on itch.io) and PokéPlunder (4.5 from 114). By runs played, Victory Road, with 94,546 runs started. If you want PokéRogue's style of endless battles, play PokéVoid.

Which Pokémon roguelike has Nuzlocke rules?

PokéVoid has a Nuzlocke mode. Victory Road plays like one: a single loss ends your run, and its developer shared it with the r/nuzlocke community.

What's the difference between a roguelike and a roguelite?

In a roguelike each run starts from nothing; a roguelite lets you keep something between runs. PokéPlunder is a roguelite: you spend points on permanent upgrades before the next run. Victory Road is closer to a pure roguelike, where one loss and you start again.

Can I play Pokémon roguelikes on my phone?

Victory Road and PokéSurvivor (turned sideways) play well on a phone. Pokémon Overlord needs a keyboard or mouse, PokéPlunder downloads 49 MB before it starts, and PokéVoid is a long first load, so those three are best on a computer.
