How we chose these games

We started from Google's top results for "train games" and itch.io's list of browser-playable train games, then opened every candidate to confirm it is free and runs in a browser without an account. Two well-known browser train games, Train Manager and Rail Nation, are left out because they need you to register before playing. We also left out fan games and tiny jam prototypes.

Every game here was checked on Oct 15, 2026 to be free and to run in a web browser with no download. Editors are playtesting each one for a full review; scores appear once that is done.
