How we chose these games

We searched r/indiegames, r/indiedev, r/WebGames, r/pokemon and r/incremental_games for Pokémon fan games that run in a browser, along with itch.io's browser games tagged Pokémon, and opened all 46 candidates on 21 October 2026. We kept only games that are free, start in the browser without a download or a sign-up, and show no ads, then ordered them by what players say: itch.io ratings, Reddit reception and how long people have kept playing. That ruled out some famous names: PokéRogue and Pokémon Auto Chess need an account before you can play, and Pokémon Showdown shows ads. We never list ROMs, ROM hacks or emulators. Four games here were made by Unfound's founder; they are labelled, and they are the ones you can play without leaving Unfound.

Every game here was checked on Oct 21, 2026 to be free and to run in a web browser with no download. Editors are playtesting each one for a full review; scores appear once that is done.

Pokémon fan games: questions people ask

Can I play Pokémon fan games in my browser without downloading anything?

Yes. Every game on this list runs in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox with no download, no sign-up and no ads. PokéClicker, PokéPath TD and Pokémon Overlord are the best-loved; Pokémon Stampede, Poke Brawl, Vine Whipped and Poke Battle play right here on Unfound.

Are these Pokémon fan games free?

Yes. All of them are free to play; PokéPath TD is pay-what-you-want on itch.io with a free option. None of them shows ads or asks you to pay to keep playing.

Which Pokémon fan games can I play on my phone?

Pokémon Stampede was built for phones first. Poke Brawl and Vine Whipped have touch controls (Vine Whipped plays in landscape), and PokéSurvivor plays in landscape too. Most of the idle games work on a phone screen; PokéPath TD, Pokémon Overlord, PokéPlunder and Poke Battle are best on a computer.

Do these Pokémon games work on a Chromebook?

Yes. They all run in the Chrome browser, so they work on a Chromebook as long as it's online. A few, such as PokéPath TD and Karpe Diem, are easiest with a keyboard and mouse.

Are Pokémon fan games legal?

Fan games are unofficial: they're made by fans without permission from Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company, which have had some fan projects taken down. The games here are free fan projects that play in a browser. We don't list ROMs, ROM hacks or emulators, which copy the official games.

Why isn't PokéRogue on this list?

PokéRogue asks you to log in or register before you can play, and this list only includes games you can start straight away. For the same reason Pokémon Auto Chess (sign-in required) is left out, and Pokémon Showdown is left out because it shows ads.

What's the difference between a Pokémon fan game and a ROM hack?

A fan game is built from scratch, often in an engine such as Godot, GameMaker or GB Studio. A ROM hack modifies a copy of an official game and needs a ROM file to play. This list only includes fan games that run in a browser.
